By inviting guest speakers with different career backgrounds and in different age groups, the LMC College2Career team aims to provide high schoolers an opportunity to gain insights into real-world careers so that they could better identify their true career passion, select college majors that suit their own interests, and facilitate their future career development. From the stories of our guest speakers, we learn together how to achieve personal goals while serving our community at the same time.
On July 24th, LMC’s C2C team is honored to invite rising sophomore Soleil Xie from the United States Naval Academy (USNA) to share with us her experience there. Soleil graduated from Newport High School in 2021, and she was an active participant and leader in Newport’s Drill and Swim&Dive teams. Soleil is currently studying computer science at the USNA; she also participates in the Chinese culture club and the Navy Spirit dance team.
Below are some key points from Soleil’s presentation, focused on the application process and her unique experience at the USNA:
USNA is one of five US service academies, located in Annapolis, Maryland. With around 4,500 students, USNA provides a unique educational experience where university students will learn and train through their first 4 years, followed by 5 years of service. Tuition to USNA is free, paid by a 5-year service commitment in the Navy/Marine corps, and a Bachelor of Science degree is awarded upon graduation.
