花卷is a main dish like rice that is eaten in certain parts of Southeast Asia.
Ingredients: (1tsp = 5g)
- All purpose flour – 300g
- Sugar – 2 tsp
- Water – 165g
- Salt – 1 tsp
- Spring onion – as needed
- Oil of your choice – based on your preference
- Seasoning (ex. Five spice powder) – optional
- Yeast – 1 tsp
Steps/Procedures:
- Using a kitchen mixer, mix all the ingredients EXCEPT oil (for about 10 minutes, until everything is nice and clean)
- Let the dough sit for 20 minutes, covered with a plastic wrap to prevent drying

- When the dough is ready, cut it into 8 pieces, similar in size
- Roll out each piece
- Using a brush, add oil to the top of each piece of dough (this is also where to put the spring onions and seasonings if you like J
- Stacked four pieces together with oil already on the surface
- Cut each stacked dough (4 cuts)
- With a chopstick (or anything of the same shape), press down the stacked pieces, pinch the two sides
- Let it sit in a place with accurate temperature (28 degrees celsuis) and humidity, for 30 minutes
- At last, steam (using any equipment) for 15 minutes straight (make sure to add enough water and put it on medium heat)
